US Open 2009 commences tmr!

Monday, August 24, 2009

Met up with yvonne, shereen, tianle, jason, and melanie on sat to catch UP 3D and I must say that even though i've not been an advocate of cartoons or animations, this is one of the few animations to watch. Their 3D effects aren't exceptional so the usual cinematic experience should suffice.

Went to essential brew for dinner thereafter and then it was my place for mahjong. Damn, I've never made any earnings from mahjong sessions in the past and as of sat, this proposition still stands. In fact, I had to incur a deficit of $3.70. i know it's not alot but it's cos we were playing with a base capital of $12; so if we were to play big, i'd probably lose the car or sth. Oh well. I suck at mj.

Federer clinched the championship trophy in Cincinnati yesterday at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters after defeating 4th seed, Novak Djokovic in straight sets. It was his 4th ATP World Tour title of the year and 8th win against Djokovic.

And so my marketing efforts had paid off. Just take a look at the registration list and you'll know.. there were around 90 people who came down to our tennis booth to register.

On a side note, I was involved in a minor accident along holland road today. I accidentally hit the rear of an old toyota cos the driver (an old man) didn't dare to drive out of the filter lane due to a menacing oncoming bus. Upon seeing the bus, he started accelerating but decided to brake after a few secs. And so, seeing that he had decided to go ahead and beat the bus to it, I released my brakes and kept my eyes focused on the bus, trying to beat the bus too. But that was when I bumped the ass of his toyota. Seriously old man, pump up your guts. You put our gender to shame.

Ok it wasn't a big deal cos both our cars'd only incurred a minor dent that aren't visible from afar; but i had to compensate him cos' by law i was the one who'd hit him from behind. Fucking hell.

I'll be stationed at the tennis booth from 10am -1pm on Fri so if you're interested in joining do drop by. However, we'll be holding trials to determine if you have what it takes to join the team. Anyhow, just sign up alright.

The new world number 2 dethroned Nadal from the spot after winning the Rogers Masters in Montreal, Canada defeating Juan Martin Del Portro in 3 sets. He currently holds 9,250 points just 1,790 points shy from the world number 1, Roger Federer.

Hurray Murray.

Family Tea Party.

Food. Cousins. Family. Sweet.
Family dinner with cousins at The Buffet Restaurant @ M Hotel

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

I'd been channel surfing alot lately and i happened to catch snippets of "My Sweet 16" on MTV; it's fucking inexplicable (ok she's filthy rich) how some girl can spend $300,000 on her sweet 16 bdae party complete with chingay floats, dancers, magician making her appear and what not. Her gift from her dad was a $100,000 jaguar sports mobil which amounts to $400,000 on the total bill.

I think her dad will have to mortgage their house for her 21st bdae. But then again, it's just peanuts to them.

It's damn cool nevertheless.

The eagerly anticipated final between top seed Andy Roddick and defending champion Juan Martin Del Potro did not disappoint on Sunday, in Washington, D.C., as second seed (6th in the world) Del Potro successfully defended his Legg Mason Tennis Classic title with a thrilling 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(6) victory over the American in the final of the ATP World Tour 500 tennis tournament.

I've been doing so much writing at work that i feel like i'm the senior editor of Food Republic & DTF. Ever since i did my first writeup of Food Opera on the last page of the Food republic booklet, it has always been "Roy, you can really write well.. can you do a writeup for this?" or "for that, and this?" and "oh for this and this and that and that too?" I'm like a copywriting machine churning out press releases after press releases... articles after articles.. I've got so much to write that I had to bring them back to do for the past 2 weeks.

Here's what I had to write for these 2 weeks: individual writeups for the media clipping boards of 26 tenants (of food opera), individual descriptions of 5 sculptures that will be engraved on gold plaques at Food Opera (I had to fabricate stories behind the sculptures can you believe it!), 4 writeups for 4 different kinds of cuisines (Chinese, Malay, Indian, Eurasian), 4 paragraphs of "The Evolution of Street Hawkers" (Early 1900s, mid 19th Century, Late 1900s, Modern Day) - all of which are to be placed in frames with illustrations at Food Opera, and a warning letter to an existing tenant for defaulting our service standards.

For a moment, I thought I was interning at sph.

Food Opera will be officially opening its doors on the 21st of July (next tues). Be sure to read the articles on the walls as well as the descriptions of the sculptures cos' they were all written by me. Hah

Been wanting to put this up just after the match but i was too tired and the past few days have been really hectic. Oh wells here it is.

Champion of Wimbledon 2009 Men's Singles and the greatest tennis player in history with 15 grand slam titles beating pete sampras's record of 14. For a moment, i thought Roddick would stand a chance but he blew it. Guess luck favors the stars sometimes.

The match was worth every minute of it. It was the 1st time i've seen Roddick play so superbly well in years.

The all-time favorite Steamed Chilli Crab Dumplings are back at all Din Tai Fung outlets from 1st July to 31st August. I was told to write the press release and come up with a headline for the above product and it's featured in all our Chilli Crab Dumplings advertisement collaterals! heh.
I've tried it myself and it's simply mouthwatering.

Serena William's (left) is officially the reigning champion of Wimbledon 2009 in the Women's Singles Championships. She defeated defending champion, sister Venus Williams (right) in straight sets 7-6, 6-2. They will be playing for the double's trophy later in the day. It was rather an unexpected win as Venus Williams never lost a set in this yr's Wimbledon Championships prior to the finals; however, Serena Williams brought up a better game and deserves the crown.
Andy Roddick has earned his ticket to the wimbledon finals after dashing the hopes of the British locals by defeating Britain's home favourites, Andy Murray. The last British who'd won Wimbledon on home soil was 73 years ago by Fred Perry. Looks like they gotta wait another year for a new historical record to be made.

I'm definitely disappointed that Murray couldn't get a chance to win Wimbledon but nevertheless, it was an exciting match to watch and he'd played well; just not well enough.

Roddick will be facing off with Federer in the finals held on Sunday. Catch it live on Star Sports!

Saturday, June 20, 2009

World No.1 Rafael Nadal has announced that he'll be withdrawing from Wimbledon 2009 due to recurring knee injuries. He was diagnosed with tendinitis in both quadriceps tendons as well as a small amount of fluid on the kneecaps.

Looks like fed's gonna win it again. Who knows? Murray may have a shot at it too.

Wimbledon 2009 commences on the 22nd of June.. Will Federer clinch his 15th grand slam title and beat Pete Sampras's record of 14 in the history of tennis?

Speaking of federer, I just dreamt that I met him at the french open last nite and he autographed my t shirt or sth cant rmbr. The thing is, i'm not even a fan of him. Andy Murray winning his first grand slam should be THE dream. WtfI've been wanting to buy this wimbledon polo t but after including freight charges, gst and airport taxes, it'll most probably amount to abt S$250 - S$300. I don't know if I wanna pay so much for a polo t. I know that it's by Ralph Lauren but.. I don't know la.
